VNSNY Ramps Up Grassroots Advocacy Efforts

September 25, 2019–As part of VNSNY’s ongoing effort to help shape state and federal policy so that we can continue to provide the best possible care to our patients and members, the organization has begun enlisting our own staff as advocates. “Some of the legislation and policies that come out of Albany and Washington, DC can have a big impact on our ability to serve our members and patients effectively,” says Dan Lowenstein, VNSNY’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “When elected officials hear from VNSNY employees who are their constituents and have the power of the vote, they’re more likely to pay attention.” Last week, VNSNY President and CEO Marki Flannery sent an email encouraging VNSNY staff to urge their Congressional representatives to support the Home Health Payment Act, which would prevent the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from making an 8% cut to Medicare home health reimbursements. August 14, 2019–Last month, the position of VNSNY Board Chair officially passed from John Rafferty to Andrew Schiff, MD. “Drew,” as he is known to his friends and colleagues, is a longtime VNSNY Board Member and the great-great-grandson of Jacob Schiff, a close friend and the main early benefactor of VNSNY’s founder, Lillian Wald. Forbes Magazine Names VNSNY as One of New York State’s Best Places to Work!

July 31, 2019–Forbes magazine has selected VNSNY for its list of the 146 best places to work for in New York State—putting it alongside internationally known corporations like Google, Apple and PepsiCo, as well as more local names like NYU, the New York Times and the New York City Police and Fire Departments. More than a dozen other healthcare organizations also join VNSNY on the New York listing, including our referring partners New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medicine, Mount Sinai Health Systems, NYU Langone Health, Northwell, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) Cuts the Ribbon on Its New Harlem Office On July 9th, Community Mental Health Services celebrated the official opening of its new office at 286 Lenox Avenue in Upper Manhattan. The new office, which is just a few minutes’ walk from CMHS’s West 125th Street location, will house CMHS’s Health Home Care Management and Behavioral Health Community Transitions programs as well as CMHS’s Central Administration staff and the Community Care Management Partners (CCMP) Health Home staff. There’s No Place Like Home! Over 250 VNSNY Staffers Celebrate LGBTQ Pride!

July 5, 2019–The Tin Man was there … as was Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and even a flying monkey! On Sunday, June 30th, under mostly sunny skies, over 250 VNSNY staff members were among the 150,000 enthusiastic participants in the largest NYC Pride March ever. On the 50th anniversary of the historic Stonewall uprising, VNSNY’s contingent, which included a Wizard of Oz float featuring the theme “There’s No Place Like Home,” drew some of the day’s loudest cheers from the hundreds of thousands of spectators who lined the streets to share in this joyful celebration of the LBGTQ community. “It was wonderful to be marching with our fellow New Yorkers as well as participants from around the world,” says Marki Flannery, VNSNY’s President and CEO. “We want the LGBTQ community to know that we’re here, we’re listening, and we’re proud to be caring for you.” Click on the slide show
