In Honor of National Home Care and Hospice Month: 5 Interesting Facts about Home Care, Hospice and VNSNY!

November 14, 2019–1. Home care significantly reduces overall healthcare expenses. For example, a 2017 study by researchers at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University, published in the American Journal of Medicine, found that patients who receive home health care after a hospital discharge save the system about $6,500.00 over the course of a year. 2. October 29, 2019–The launch of VNSNY’s new Workday human resources, finance, and payroll system is this Thursday, October 31st. But no need to wait until then to find out how intuitive Workday is to use. You can begin taking a look at the Workday “just-in-time” resources in advance—they’re just a click away! “Giving Staff the Tools They Need”—How SAGECare’s LGBT Training Continues to Resonate with VNSNY Caregivers

October 16, 2019–  VNSNY is now in its third year of providing SAGECare LGBT competency training to its employees. Today, this training—which teaches the importance of respecting all sexual orientations and gender identities, and outlines specific ways to achieve this—continues to resonate with VNSNY staff members. “We recently had four wonderful training sessions with HHA supervisors at Partners in Care,” says Sadiya Abjani, a trainer from SAGE, the advocacy group for LGBT seniors, who works frequently with VNSNY staff. “Partners in Care, and VNSNY as a whole, do an amazing job of cultivating an incredibly diverse workforce. This diversity lifts our SAGECare training to a completely different level, by letting us hear where different people are coming from in their journey of understanding and caring for our LGBT constituency.” In her recent Partners in Care sessions, notes Sadiya, “There were definite ‘ah-hah’ moments for those attending.” While the 90-minute sessions were often

October 8, 2019–Last year, VNSNY provided $39 million in free and discounted home care and support services for vulnerable communities. The total included over $82,000 in personal donations from hundreds of VNSNY staff members! Following up on this great effort, out 2019 Strength from Within employee giving campaign is now officially underway. Flu Vaccine Program for 2019-2020 Officially Starts this Week!  With the 2019-2020 flu season just around the corner, VNSNY’s flu vaccine program for staff is officially underway as of this week. The first to get a flu shot? VNSNY President and CEO Marki Flannery. (See photo at left!) Click here for a schedule of when free flu shots are being offered at VNSNY’s various regional offices.
