Sunitha Achamma Job—Physical Therapist, VNSNY Home Care

October 12, 2017

Making a Difference with “Hello” and a Smile

“Sunitha exemplifies service on all levels. She is compassionate and kind, not only for her patients, but for her colleagues and managers as well. Teamwork epitomizes Sunitha’s character in every aspect of her work. She is innovative in her thinking, and holds herself to the utmost highest standards.”

To say that Sunitha Achamma Job, a physical therapist, arrived at VNSNY in 2011 with a good deal of experience under her belt is an understatement. After earning a Master’s Degree in physical therapy in her native India, she went on to become the Chief of Physical Therapy at a stroke rehabilitation center in the southern Indian state of Kerala. What she missed, however, were the rewards of treating patients outside the hospital environment—something she readily finds in her work with VNSNY Home Care in Westchester County and the Bronx. “When an executive search firm found me a job at VNSNY and I began working there,” she says, “I knew I had found the perfect fit.”

Sunitha takes special pleasure in treating senior citizens. Her happiest surprise has been how readily she makes a difference in these patients’ lives. “I was stunned,’ she says, “to see what a simple hello, a smile, or just walking through the door could do for these dear people.” She also appreciates the ease of communication with her team members and how she’s given crystal-clear directions for both what individual patients need and how she can best help them. “All in all,” Sunitha says, “I’m much more involved in improving my patients’ quality of life in home care than in hospital or rehab settings.”
