Moving to 220 East 42nd Street? Here Are Seven Key Updates You May Find Helpful

May 23, 2018

Starting in August, VNSNY’s workforce at 1250 Broadway will begin moving to our new location at 220 East 42nd Street. Here are some key updates:

1) The renovation of Floor 7 is now complete, and furniture has been delivered and is being installed on the floor.

The remaining floors—VNSNY will occupy three full floors and parts of four others— are in various stages of completion.

2) Coming soon: The exact dates of each department’s move.

Specific departmental move dates should be available by the time of the VNSNY Move Fair (see Key Update #3).

3) Mark your calendars: The VNSNY Move Fair will take place at 1250 Broadway on July 16th and 17th.

Photographs from the construction of the new offices will be revealed at the Move Fair, and the VNSNY Move Team hopes to be able to share finalized floor locations for each department as well. You’ll also have a chance to get some packing tips, check out some sample workbenches and try out our winning office chair, as voted on by VNSNY staff members! In addition, a representative from the Grand Central Partnership Business Improvement District will be on hand to talk about the neighborhood.

4) Get ready for a faster, more flexible Internet at work.

According to the Move Team, the Wi-Fi will be significantly upgraded in the new offices. The office floorplans, which are designed for optimized work flow and improved collaboration, will also feature large windows and lots of natural light. In addition to people’s individual work spaces, there will be open seating areas for work-related gatherings or conversations, bright new eating spaces (the third-floor café even has a terrace), conference rooms that can be reserved, and “telephone booths” for private or personal phone calls.

5) VNSNY staff have been doing a heroic job scanning paper files to create digital archives.

Since one goal of the new offices is to reduce the amount of filing cabinets needed in the new space, this scanning process has been a major priority. Remember, if your scanning needs are greater than the contents of a single filing cabinet, help is available! Please contact Jason Tsui to coordinate that process.

6) As part of the pre-move cleanup at 1250 Broadway, our staff has recycled more than 67 tons of paper!

That amounts to saving 1,143 trees and 471,000 gallons of water that would otherwise be used to water trees and make new paper, along with enough energy to power 34 houses for a year.  And while the orange recycling bins have temporarily left the building, they’ll be brought back in a couple of months for another round of recycling before the actual move.

7) Be thinking about what you’ll take with you.

“At the end of the day, each employee should aim for packing the personal and work belongings they’re taking to the new space in a single crate,” says Andrew Wise, Vice President, Talent Management and Organizational Development. More detailed packing guidelines and instructions will be provided closer to the move date.
