Welcome Back! Check Out These Photos from Last Week’s Return to Work Event!

November 19, 2021–Last week kicked off the return of a number of hybrid-working VNSNY staff to our 220 East 42nd Street offices. For many employees, it was their first time back at the office in months. For others, it was their first time back since going remote in March of 2020! As you can see, everyone had a lot of fun, being together again. To celebrate, staff gathered on the Marki Flannery Terrace on Wednesday, November 17th for some light refreshments and games. Check out the slideshow below for pictures of our return to the office! Welcome back! And a special congratulations to Crystal Mingo, Transitional Care Associate, Population Health, and Yanne Carrera, Supervisor, CORE Business Operations, who both won the return to work raffle!

A Day in the Life: Demitrious Cáceres — Community Events Assistant, VNSNY CHOICE Community Outreach

November 18, 2021–Welcome to “A Day in the Life”—a Frontline series that follows staff members from different areas of VNSNY as they go through a typical day at work. Community Events Assistants play an essential role in supporting VNSNY CHOICE’s outreach activities. On top of operating and maintaining VNSNY’s vehicle fleet, a Community Events Assistant is also responsible for securing locations for neighborhood outreach, handling setup and takedown of equipment and displays, maintaining supply inventory, and supporting outreach staff throughout the course of a day’s work. Since joining the organization this past May, Demitrious Cáceres has ensured that CHOICE SelectHealth can provide outreach to all corners of Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Westchester—VNSNY’s SelectHealth service area… since he operates the SelectHealth van! “I’ve always been a people person, so I like engaging,” explains Demitrious. “I most enjoy talking with people out in the community, and because we deal with insurance,

CEO Dan Savitt Heads to Yonkers for His Second Episode of “Neighborhood Spotlight”!

November 11, 2021–Frontline VNSNY is excited to bring you the second episode of “Neighborhood Spotlight.” In this new video series, VNSNY President and CEO Dan Savitt spotlights the care that VNSNY provides in different communities within our VNSNY service area. From Bayside to Bay Ridge, Chinatown to Levittown, Dan will be traveling to all corners of New York City and beyond, talking to staff about how we touch many different lives in many different neighborhoods. In this second episode, Dan visits Yonkers to talk to physical therapist Nataliya Kukil—as well as a recovering stroke patient and his family. Click below to watch the video! Celebrating VNSNY’s Contributions to LGBTQ+ History

October 28, 2021–October is LGBTQ+ History Month.  In 1994, Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, came up the idea for LGBT History Month and chose October because schools are in session across the country and October 11 was already National Coming Out Day. In honor of LGBTQ+ History Month, here are some notable events and developments at VNSNY over the past several decades related to LGBTQ+ care and the LGTBQ+ community: The AIDS Epidemic Although VNSNY began caring for AIDS patients in the late 1970s, the early 1980s marked the official start of the AIDS epidemic. There are some clear similarities between that time and the present-day COVID-19 epidemic: The cause of AIDS was unknown at first, it wasn’t clear how contagious it was, and it created great fear. Still, like today, VNSNY responded to the AIDS crisis with clarity and confidence. “The organization really was a pioneer with AIDS,” recalls

The 2021 Strength From Within Campaign Kicks Off!

October 26, 2021–We’re excited to announce the launch of the 2021 Strength from Within Employee Giving Campaign! The goals are to support our mission, raise funds for programs aimed at decreasing healthcare disparities, and strengthen the culture of philanthropy here at VNSNY. “Over the last five years, we’ve seen the number of employees making a donation to one of our charitable and community programs grow nearly tenfold,” says Catherine Callaway, SVP of Marketing and Development. “It’s inspiring to see so many of our colleagues personally supporting the mission.” In 2019 and 2020, the campaign raised over $100,000, all of which went to support care for our neighbors and communities most in need. “I contribute to Strength from Within every year,” says Jeri Goodman, Associate Director of Social Work Services. “Last year I chose to split my contribution between the Charitable Care and LGBTQ+ programs.
