VNSNY to Offer All Clinicians a Free 10-Week Online Care Management Course

January 17, 2019

Starting on January 22nd, VNSNY will be offering all VNSNY clinicians a free 10-week webinar course in care management. The course, provided through New York State’s Workforce Investment Organization (WIO) program, consists of 10 one-hour, interactive modules developed by VNSNY’s Population Health and Education Departments and led by Education Manager Peggy Osei-Tutu.

“Any clinician working for any part of VNSNY, including CHOICE, Home Care, Hospice,  Partners in Care, ESPRIT and Community Mental Health Services is eligible to take the course,” notes Peggy. “That includes nurses in both clinical and business positions, as well as all rehabilitation therapists and social workers.” At the end of the course, participating multidisciplinary clinicians can take the Commission for Case Manager (CCM) certification exam, and RN Case Managers can take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Case Management exam.

Two cohorts of the course are already scheduled: The first will be offered on 10 consecutive Tuesdays from noon until 1:00 p.m., starting on Tuesday, January 22nd. The second will take place on 10 consecutive Thursdays in the same noon to 1:00 time slot, starting on Thursday February 7th. VNSNY staff can access the modules from any computer at the scheduled times, and can also use the program’s online portal to ask questions of Peggy at the end of each hour-long class.

To register, simply click your preferred cohort: Cohort 1 (January 22 – March 26) or  Cohort 2 (Feb 7 – April 11). Once registered, the class schedule will be sent automatically to each staff member’s online calendar. Topics covered in the individual modules include Transitions of Care; Psychosocial Aspects of Care Management; Care Delivery and Reimbursement Methods; and the Role of the Care Manager Related to Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Measures.

“We strongly encourage everyone to attend these sessions in real time to get the most value from them,” says Peggy. At the same time, if someone should happen to miss a class—or wants to review the material again—each class will also be recorded and posted on VNSNY’s YouTube channel.

Since the course is being funded by the WIO initiative as a part of the New York State DSRIP program, it is also open to clinicians from other healthcare organizations. VNSNY plans to offer additional cohorts in the near future, adds Jessica Williams, Director of Government Grants, including one with modules running weekly from 5 to 6 in the evening, and another that will cover the full material in a pair of 5-hour face-to-face classroom sessions held over two days.

“This free training is a great opportunity for VNSNY to share our population health and care management expertise both with our clinicians and with the clinical staff of our partner agencies,” says Jessica. “So please pass the word on to your colleagues!”
