Changing Lives—and Making Magic Happen—in the Rockaways

July 22, 2024–INSIDE PROVIDER SERVICES with David Rosales Hello, and welcome to my Frontline column, “Inside Provider Services.” I’m excited to be sharing this column, which will focus on our Provider Services teams—Home Care (CHHA), Hospice, Behavioral Health, Personal Care and the CMO—and all the great work they’re doing. So let’s get started! Earlier this year, I was interviewed for our external newsletter, VNS Health Today. The very first question I was asked: “What would you say is VNS Health’s greatest strength as an organization?”  I replied that I thought it was our ability to build trust with our patients and their families and to change the entire direction of their lives.  When we do that, I said, that’s where the magic happens. I truly believe this. Our ability to build trust and change lives is why so many providers in the community turn to us to manage a patient’s care after

We Asked: What Food Do You Like to Make for Your Clients? You Gave Us the World!

July 22, 2024–Over 185 VNS Health Home Health Aides responded to our May raffle question: “Do you have a favorite dish or special type of food that you like to make for your clients?” We received wonderful descriptions of dishes from cultures around the world, including Korean, Chinese, Dominican, Italian, Creole, Hungarian and Jamaican dishes, just to name a few! These responses from our HHAs showcase our diverse team and clients as well as the importance of food as a universal language. Sharing food helps us celebrate our diversity and encourage empathy and understanding in a delicious and very real way. By sharing meals and cooking practices, we gain insights into the history, values and social customs of different communities and cultures. Traditional dishes often tell stories of ancestral heritage, regional ingredients, and festive celebrations—creating connections that go beyond geography and language. Three $200 Prizes: We took the names of all the HHA

Delivering Care, Love, and Respect Every Day: Our MLTC Plan—and Our HHAs—in Action!

July 16, 2024–Although 79-year-old Luly* has dementia and is no longer able to be by herself, her days are full of love and caring, thanks to round-the-clock support provided by four dedicated Personal Care home health aides—Miriam Bonilla-Britto, Jissell Taveras Perez, Raisa Calero, and Marina Moreno De Del Orbe.  Together, Miriam, Jissell, Raisa, and Marina work split shifts in perfect harmony. Like Luly, who is a member in our Medicaid Managed Long Term Care (MLTC) health plan, all four aides speak mainly Spanish, and the personal care services they provide are covered completely by her plan, which is designed for Medicaid recipients with an ongoing need for long-term care. For the three-plus years that Luly has been an MLTC member, “she has never been to a hospital,” says Miriam proudly. When asked to recount the many activities they do each day, Miriam starts with: “Walk, walk, walk.” In nice weather, they go
