Talk About Inspiring! Read What Our HHAs Say They Most Look Forward to When Visiting Clients.
Just recently, we asked our Home Health Aide team members: “What do you most look forward to when visiting your client each day?”
Their responses all had two things in common: they were heartfelt and they were truly inspiring.
To see for yourself, here are a few.
“She is my friend. I love to see her happy.”

“I want to see my patient do everything she wants to do,” says Helena Akhtar, an HHA in Queens. “Talking, smiling, going out, eating good. She is my friend. I love to see her happy.”
“Trying new things.”
“My client likes when I come because I encourage her to try new things,” writes Carlotta Bishop-Britton, who works in Brooklyn.
“There to meet her goals.”
“I look forward to seeing that my client is relaxed in knowing what she is looking to achieve each day,” says Josephine Charles, who works in Brooklyn. “My presence gives her the assurance that I am there to help her meet any goals she has.”
“It’s about connection.”

“I look forward to knowing that my presence can make a difference in my client’s day. It’s more than just tasks: it’s about the connection, the trust, and the quiet moments where I see how much this work truly matters,” says Gepzibah Lucia Galindez, an HHA in Brooklyn. “Being there for someone, offering care and compassion, is one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done.”
“I learn a lot from each of my clients.”
“I always learn something new,” replies Yacaly Diaz Medrano, from the Bronx. “It’s a never-ending, continuous experience. I learn a lot from each of my clients as I help them achieve their goals for the day.”
“I love listening.”
“I always look forward to the conversations about life while providing the best love and care I can,” says Shauntae Johnson, who cares for clients in Manhattan. “One of my patients is 99, and she tells me stories about her life and her kids . . . where and how they grew up, and all about her culture. I love listening to their stories because there is always some wisdom and a lesson in them. I love to laugh and bring joy to my clients. It gives me peace to know that I have at least put a smile on someone’s face that day.”
“Helping your client achieve their goals.”

“Helping your client achieve their goals for the day makes a difference in their lives, no matter how small,” notes Mitchima Morisset, who works in Manhattan. “I love helping people.”
“Hearing your client say, ‘I missed you.’”

“Hearing them say, ‘I missed you while you were gone. I’m so happy to see you today,’” says Desiree Pierre, who works in Queens.
“Interacting with a familiar or a new face.”
“Being able to interact with a familiar or new face each day is what brings me the most joy!” says Alexis Rodriguez, in Manhattan. “Everybody wants to be heard, and this job gives me an opportunity to talk and listen to my client. By listening with patience and empathy, I can achieve all the client needs with grace. With a question as simple as ‘How are you feeling today?’ I can take a load off their backs.”
“Creating a bond.”

“I look forward to getting to know the patients and creating a bond,” is what Christina Santiago, an HHA in Westchester, likes best. “Getting to know them helps me to understand them better. I also like to see their faces light up when they speak about their accomplishments or their favorite music or food, because in that moment, they forget about whatever pain they are in. It puts them in a different mindset, and it helps to put a smile on their faces and on mine.”
