Meet the 220 East 42nd Street Move Team and Get a First Look at Our New Space!
Dear Colleague,
Welcome to the first communication from the 220 East 42nd Street Move Team! The move to our new location will begin in August – between now and then there’s going to be a lot to tell you about, but to start, we’d like to introduce ourselves:
The 220 East 42nd Street Move Team
Project Head: Jay Margolis, Director, Facilities & Property Management
Jay is responsible for overall management and oversight of the move and its associated work streams
Facilities Lead: Roman Szewc, Assistant Director, Facilities & Property Management
Roman will be overseeing all the move logistics: preparations, the move itself, and post-move activities
Communications Lead: Andrew Wise, VP, Talent Management & Organizational Development
Andrew is leading move-related communications efforts, partnering with internal and external work stream leads to ensure aligned messaging
Interior Move Consultants (IMC): Lois Baskin, Outside Consultant
Lois and the IMC team will work together with the VNSNY Move Team to oversee and coordinate the pre-planning and overall steps leading up to the move
Information Technology Lead: Doug Sheley, Director, Infrastructure Services
Doug will oversee all of the IT components of the move, to assure a smooth tech transition for everyone from our current location to the new space on East 42nd Street
Human Resources Lead: Mary Sheehy, HR Specialist
Mary will be leading the creation of new policies and procedures to support how we will be working together in our new, open space environment
Security Lead: Frank Passarella, Director, Safety & Security
Frank will be in charge of ensuring our safety and security in our new space
In addition to the Move Team, we have enlisted a great group of colleagues from 1250 Broadway who will act as Move Ambassadors and Move Coordinators. Our Move Ambassadors will help share communications, updates, and information about the move and our exciting new space; our Move Coordinators will liaison with our 1250 departments to help them prepare for the move, including identifying storage needs, working on reducing paper and proper document retention, and sharing logistical details as the move gets closer. You can find out who our Move Ambassadors and Move Coordinators are by clicking here. We are having a kick-off meeting with them on February, 15th, so stay tuned for more information from them post meeting.
As you know from our initial communications, we are moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art office space in an historic location, the Daily News Building. Our new workplace will feature an open space concept and will offer increased opportunities for collaboration – you’ll be able to do everything from booking an enclosed conference space for more formal meetings to grabbing a few colleagues and going to one of our open collaboration areas to brainstorm. In addition, thanks to the ceiling-high windows on all sides of the building, the space will be flooded with natural light. Our new space is being designed so that we can house like departments as close as possible to each other, to improve communication and collaboration across our programs and departments (something we’ve heard from you in our employee engagement surveys). Want to get a sneak preview of what a floor looks like? Click here.
Finally, even though the move is still months away, we recommend that you start taking some initial steps now to clean out your current space, starting with non-VNSNY property and your personal effects. What don’t you need anymore? What can you take home? What can be thrown away or recycled? As you may have already heard, filing and common storage areas will be significantly less in our new space. We’ll be implementing a record retention policy in the near future to help guide you and your Move Coordinators on how to best retain any VNSNY documents. And in the coming weeks we’ll be gearing up for a more formalized Clean-Up Campaign to help reduce files, storage, and supplies.
This is an exciting time for VNSNY and everyone has an important part to play in the upcoming move. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon!
