Meet Our 2024 ESPRIT Winner: Mossogbe Camera

Mossogbe Camera prides herself on supporting her colleagues and making their lives easier, so they in turn can improve the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers in need. “I’m not patient-facing, but I know the role I play has an impact on our plan members,” says Mossogbe, who is a Reconciliation Specialist on the VNS Health Plans team. “Eligibility is so important to the care we deliver. In fact, it’s the reason I’m in health care.”
One recent project she initiated demonstrates how Mossogbe enables her colleagues to do their jobs better. Last year, she took the initiative to move data from a mundane Excel report into a user-friendly dashboard—giving immediate visibility into disenrollment trends. “That helped the team gain better insight, and I hope it enabled senior leadership to make informed decisions about disenrollment,” says Mossogbe. “I’m really proud of the things I’ve implemented over the years to make my team members’ jobs easier.”
Mossogbe also makes her colleagues’ lives easier by sharing her knowledge in day-to-day interactions. Says one of her nominators, “She is a great encourager. If I get confused with some processes, she will take the time not only to explain but to lead me in doing it better. Our department greatly counts on her as she carries us through our projects. She is a shining star.” Another nominator calls her “the go-to person for writing up process and procedures, and for helping to simplify projects.”
Mossogbe’s desire to help others extends to her community. The daughter of African immigrants, Mossogbe volunteers to help newly arrived African immigrants find jobs, housing and other resources. “I think, that could be my parents,” she says. “I love helping new migrants have a smooth transition.”
Her deep empathy is something that her colleagues see and appreciate. As her nomination says: “Mossogbe has demonstrated the Core Value of Empathy by understanding the challenges our members are facing, being there to assist them, and putting herself in their shoes to better support them.”
