VNSNY Is on Full Display on World AIDS Day!
World AIDS Day, which was on December 1st, is a day dedicated to raising awareness of AIDS, recognizing those impacted by the epidemic, and saluting the great progress that’s been made in successfully treating the disease. VNSNY has been a leader in the fight against AIDS from the start, and that leadership was on full display in the media this week.
Arthur Fitting, Director of VNSNY’s LGBTQ Outreach program, interviewed a leading researcher on HIV/AIDS management for a group of local publications, and was also one of the featured presenters at the National Hispanic Medical Association’s December 1st webinar, When Two Pandemics Meet: HIV and COVID-19 in the Hispanic LGBTQ Community. In his remarks, Arthur explained how VNSNY adapted to COVID-19 in order to support the health of our HIV-positive patients and plan members and members of the LGBTQ community, as well as our patients and members in general. “It was a valuable and enjoyable experience,” says Arthur. “Having a prestigious organization such as the NHMA reach out to VNSNY, as an organization that focuses on LGBTQ+ health as well as COVID and HIV/AIDS, communicates a shared professional recognition for all the work we have been doing.” To view Arthur’s full presentation, click here.
In addition, as part of its World AIDS Day coverage, Bronx Net TV aired an interview with Tom Dwyer, Senior Vice President of CHOICE SelectHealth, VNSNY’s Medicaid special needs plan for New Yorkers who are living with HIV. “We’ve made a lot of progress, particularly here in the state of New York,” said Tom, noting that Governor Cuomo’s End the Epidemic initiative has served as a national and international model. “A lot of it has do with awareness, testing, and care management activities,” he added, including “peer to peer contact, and outreach into the community.” Tom’s BronxNet TV interview also highlighted this Worlds AIDS Day event in the Bronx, co-sponsored by SelectHealth together with New York City Council Member Vanessa Gibson. To see Tom’s interview, click here below.
