Carlos Londono Speaks with Opcion TV on the Ways the Health Plans Team Support the Community

Host: We’re here today With Carlos Londono, to learn how some local organizations are helping our community.

Carlos: As a community outreach representative for VNS Health, my team and I focus on caring for the whole person. Today, at the Dominican Medical Center in Upper Manhattan, we are conducting a free turkey giveaway for community members who are in need.  Just being there for them the best we can. Within our company, we have different senior programs, and I dedicate myself to providing the community with the support they need.

VNS Health also has insurance plans that help people receive medical care at home—no matter where they live in the community. We have different specialized health plans, such as our Medicare plans for vulnerable seniors. VNS Health also is also a home care provider. We are also dedicated to helping homeless individuals, those with mental health issues, the LGBT community, and many other groups who don’t always have access to health care and services. Additionally, we offer several different specialized health plans. With everything we do, we are always connected to the community, including the relationship we have in the Manhattan area, particularly with the Upper Manhattan community, the Latino community, and the surrounding area.

Host: Whether the problem at hand is easy or complicated, the first question I want to ask is: What are the needs? What do we, as clients, need to access coverage?

Carlos: Well, first, the greatest need is information. That’s why we organize these types of events where we go out into the community. We are present with our VNS Health vans across the city to reach the public, to go wherever there are people who have questions about their medical plans. So, we are there to assist them. We also have representatives who speak different languages and can help clients with questions about Medicare plans.

Host: Is a visa is required, as well as having insurance to be covered while outside your country?

Carlos: We can guide and assist with these services to help individuals understand how to access coverage. The insurance plans we offer are through Medicare, so having a legal status in the country would be necessary. However, there are different programs available to individuals in various communities. VNS Health, for instance, can guide people, but we mainly focus on Medicare, related services, particularly medical care. We do offer free services on some occasions, like today.
