“What Do You Like Best About Being a Home Health Aide?”

August 29, 2024

That’s the question we asked for our July raffle—and our wonderful HHA team delivered!  We received more than 245 terrific responses!

If you didn’t participate, we really hope you will for our next raffle question.  Each month, we take the names of all the HHA team members who participated in that month’s raffle question and draw three at random to receive a $200 award!

The winning team members who each received $200 for July’s raffle are… Gillian Thomas, Rachel Melendez, and Minnett Brown. Congratulations, Gillian, Rachel, and Minnett!

Here are just a few of the many heartfelt responses that we received when we asked:  “What do you like best about being a Home Health Aide?”

“Being a Home Health Aide has changed my life.”

“Being a home health aide has changed my life so much that I have decided to pursue a career as a nurse to help those in need,” said Carina Pacaud. “What I like most about my job is giving my best to patients. I put a smile on their faces every day and make them feel safe.”

“When I walk into a client’s door and I see her face light up…”

“When I walk in a client’s door and I see her face light up, it’s like she’s saying, ‘I’m safe now that you are here.’ It makes me feel good about myself to know that I give back and bring happiness to someone else,” responded Cheryl Thompson.

“I’m able to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.”

Cristi Rodriguez wrote, “I like that I’m able to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures. I’m able to learn from the patients and their families.”

“The joy I get from helping the elderly is great!”

Keila Silva de Brito replied, “The joy I get from helping the elderly is great! I’m learning a lot about how they endure the hardest days of their lives and how they have survived. It’s like watching history live. Some of my clients are grandchildren of slaves, and they have a lot to say. My hours are great. I can choose what time to work, and how far I need to go to work. It’s the first time in my life that it doesn’t take me an hour to get to work.”

“I love lifting my patients’ spirits… and the flexibility of my schedule.”

“I love assisting my patients and lifting their spirits by encouraging them to cope with whatever challenges they may be facing,” noted Grace Atoki.  “These patients rely on me to keep up with their daily activities and their appointments. It makes me feel responsible and happy when my patients’ faces light up upon seeing me in the mornings. I also enjoy the flexibility of my schedule. My job teaches me to care for myself and my family in positive ways.”

“I love taking care of patients and chatting with them.”

“I love taking care of the patients and chatting with them. Most of them are lonely and need a friend by their side,” noted Mariam Sillah. “I’m glad it’s me.”

“Every day I get the unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.”

“As a home health aide, the most rewarding aspect is the profound connection I build with my clients,” reported Martha Sillah, adding, “Every day, I get the unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, whether it’s through providing essential care, sharing stories, or simply being a comforting presence. The personal satisfaction of seeing a client’s health improve and knowing I’ve contributed to their well-being is unparalleled. The trust and gratitude from clients and their families create a fulfilling and deeply human experience that goes beyond a typical job—it’s a calling.”

“Putting a big smile on their faces.”

What Evette Lessey likes best about being a home health aide is making her clients “feel relaxed, comfortable, and putting a big smile on their faces.” She added , “knowing they feel a sense of independence again and can do little things on their own, that’s what I love best.”
