VNS Health Media Highlights: Sharing Our Rebrand News, Inspiring Team Members, and Nurses Month!

This month was a historic and busy month for VNS Health! The hard work of our teams did not go unnoticed, with lots of great stories from local and national outlets on VNS Health and our role we play in the community.

Here are some of the highlights for VNS Health media coverage the last few weeks… 

Media Outlets Share News That We Are Now VNS Health!     

Finally getting to share news of our new name and rebrand was a proud moment for VNS Health and a great chance to share more about how the new name furthers our mission and allows the organization to do better work than ever before. 

CEO Dan Savitt and Catherine Callaway, SVP, Marketing and Development broke down the importance of the move in a feature for Home Health Care News, explaining why the name change was a necessary change for VNS Health.

“We’re 129 years old now,” Dan Savitt told Home Health Care News. “We started as a home care organization, and we’re excited about continuing that history through, but we’ve become an organization with a lot of additional products and services.”

In addition, the news was covered by AP, Yahoo Finance, WPIX11, Healthcare Dive, McKnights, HomeCare Magazine, The Bronx Voice, Markets Insider, Benzinga, and many others!

  • WPIX11 Shares Heartwarming Story of Behavioral Health Nurse Laura Lau and VNS Health Patient 

WPIX11 shared an inspiring story about RN Laura Lau, and her work as a behavioral health nurse helping a patient undergoing treatment for breast cancer, who wanted to thank Laura for her support. The story also included expertise from Yvonne Eaddy, VNS Health Vice President, Regional Patient Care Services. Watch the segment here

  • Home Care Nurses for the Win! Amsterdam News Profiles RN Fatima Sanchez 

As part of their “Black New Yorkers” series, Amsterdam News profiled RN Fatima Sanchez. Sanchez shared why she loves working in home care, and how acknowledgement from the community during the pandemic has been important to all nurses. Read the whole profile here.

Published weekly, Amsterdam News is the voice of one of the largest and most influential Black communities in the country and the world. It has a print circulation of 15,000 and monthly page views of nearly 450,000 

  • For National Nurses Week, Brooklyn Paper Puts the Spotlight on RN Sherill Stennett  

Published to coincide with National Nurses Week, The Brooklyn Paper highlighted the importance of home health. RN Sherill Stennett was featured in the piece, and shared how nurses, beyond immediate care, also provide a valuable service with education to patients and caregivers. Read the whole story here

The Brooklyn Paper is a small, weekly broadsheet and website that covers news related exclusively to the New York City borough of Brooklyn, reaching an audience of 169,677.

  • Next Avenue Shows How a NORC Can Help Seniors Stay Independent, with the Help of VNS Health Nurses

A story in Next Avenue highlights the importance of Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC). The author shares an inspiring story of how a NORC in the Bronx, alongside the work of a VNS Health nurse, helped the author’s mother stay as independent and healthy as possible as she grows older.   • In new piece for Medium, SVP leading Patient Care Services, Jennifer Brullo, Shares Why the Pandemic Made Home Health More Important Than Ever 

Jennifer Brullo, Senior Vice President leading Patient Care Services at VNS Health has a new byline piece for Medium on how the role of the home care nurse has taken on an additional layer of urgency during the pandemic and transformed the way many nurses work.  Brullo included takeaways from VNS Health nurses for the story, including Ruth Caballero, RN, home care nurse Fatima Sanchez, public health home nurse Phil Leon, hospice nurse Diane King-Jones, population health nurse practitioner Geralda Pellisier, and Elizabeth Almanzar-Wright, a care coordinator on the Health Plan team.   • Forbes takes a deep dive into work of VNS Health Research Scientist Julia Burgdorf on the importance of training for family caregivers 

A new Forbes piece, “Families Must Provide More Medical Care at Home, But with Little Training,” puts a spotlight on the work and research of VNS Health Research Scientist Julia Burgdorf. The piece highlights the findings of the 2022 study that found there was a need for hospitals and providers to give more thorough training for family caregivers handling home health for loved ones.   • Staten Island Advance Features Expertise from Physical Therapist Betty Ayetiwa on the Importance of Rehabbing at Home  

A new piece in the Staten Island Advance illustrates how home health and physical therapy help Staten Island Seniors stay independent. The story, “‘People just sat on their couches and got weaker.’ How the pandemic affected mobility of older Staten Islanders,” features insights and perspective from VNS Health Physical Therapist Betty Ayetiwa.   • For Military Appreciation Month, BronxNet interviews Veteran Program Liaison Sung Yoon 

In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, VNS Health Veteran Program Liaison, Sung Yoon joined BronxNet TV’s “Open” program to speak about the importance of giving thanks to veterans this month and every day of the year, informed in part by her own experiences as a medic in the military.   • For AAPI Heritage Month, Patch Highlights the Dedicated Team at VNS Health Chinatown NNORC and Chinatown Community Center  

A new story in Patch, published to coincide with AAPI Heritage Month focuses on the dedicated team at the VNS Health Chinatown Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC), and Chinatown Community Center working to help Asian-American seniors age in place and stay healthy.
