Satish Dhanna, Supervisor, Veteran’s Program

Please welcome Satish Dhanna as the new Supervisor for the Veteran’s Program. Satish is a Veteran who has dedicated his career to working within the Veteran community. His professional palette centers on providing Veterans with the tools and resources needed to transition from their time in service back into civilian society.

Satish comes to VNS Health with 11 years of professional experience, encompassing work within the military and in the human and social services field, providing VA and non-VA resources for housing, employment, benefits, and medical services to Veterans and their families. Seven of those years included providing Intensive Case Management services and outreach to formerly homeless Veterans who were chronically homeless or were at risk of homelessness in the New York City Area. Additionally, Satish is trained and certified by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) to provide peer support to Veterans and others engaged in mental health treatment to identify and achieve specific life and recovery goals.

As a former Army Sergeant, Satish served honorably from 2006 – 2018 and deployed to Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). His career working with Veterans in the human and social service fields began in 2013 when he became the first Intensive Case Manager hired for Volunteers of America – Greater New York Support Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program. His last assignment was at the Department of Veterans Affairs Veteran Health Administrations (VHA) – Readjustment Counseling Services (RCS) Program.

Satish is a native New Yorker born in the Fordham section of the Bronx and raised in Jamaica, Queens. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities & Justice Studies from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Presently, he is working on his Master of Social Work degree at Columbia University School of Social Work with a specialization in Leadership, Management, and Entrepreneurship for Social Justice (LME). Satish also enjoys spending time with his family, eating out, and traveling.
