Last Month We Asked: “What Is Your Favorite Holiday Tradition?”

December 15, 2025

Over 400 Home Health Aide team members responded to our November raffle question— “What is your favorite holiday tradition?”

The responses were heartwarming. One tradition—spending time with loved ones—was a clear frontrunner for the most beloved part of the holiday season, getting named in 74% of responses. Many HHAs also mentioned decorating their homes (37%) and cooking special meals (51%).

Not surprisingly, more than a third of those who responded said they enjoy dedicating their free time to helping others, with many expressing the joy they feel in assisting their clients with their own holiday traditions.

As we do each month, we took the names of all the HHA team members who participated in the November raffle question, put them all together, and drew three at random. The winning team members, who each received $100, were Rosario Perez, Kemona Bailey and Claudia Guerron.

Remember, to be included in our monthly $100 raffles, all you have to do is answer that month’s question!

Here, below, are some of the specific answers we received…

Old Memories and Snapshots of the Past

“The ability to revisit wonderful old memories and snapshots of the past while creating new ones warms the heart,” said Valora Ford. “I pick small things, like a recipe, toy, song, or picture that is important, and I revisit why it is significant.”

“My favorite Christmas tradition happens in the month of November for me: the decoration of the Christmas tree,” answered Angela M. Henriquez. “It marks the beginning of the festive season.”

Volunteering and Helping Others

“My favorite tradition is volunteering and helping others during the holidays,” said Abidah Dickinson. “I also love working with my clients on Thanksgiving so I can enjoy the day with them!”

Decorating the Tree

“I love decorating the tree with my son at home,” noted Veronica Lopez. “Seeing his happy face as we’re decorating is all I need at the end of the day. Also, I helped decorate a client’s tree this year. I loved seeing her smile—it was very rewarding to me.”

Contests and Gift Exchanges

“We prepare hot chocolate and hold contests such as ‘the most original Christmas costume,’ and we also have gift exchanges,” wrote Sonnia Garcia.

Spending Time with Clients

“Spending time with clients who are lonely and have no loved ones around can bring great joy and cheer,” wrote Michelle Brown.

Slowing Down and Appreciating Life’s Simple Blessings

“What makes this season special isn’t just the celebrations themselves,” notes Muskan Bajaj, “but the emotions and traditions that come alive during this time. With Thanksgiving at its heart, November becomes a reminder to slow down and appreciate life’s simple blessings—family, friendships, health, and the everyday comforts we often overlook. It’s a time when homes open their doors, kitchens come alive with familiar aromas, and people rediscover the joy of togetherness.”

Making Others Feel Happy

“I love making others feel happy and important during the holidays. Not everyone has family, and the little things matter,” said Tahleeyah James.

Lighting Candles to Give Thanks

“Traditionally, we always light candles to give thanks for another year with our families,” said Sandra Poveda.
