Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month!

September 16, 2021

Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month!

I’d like to wish everyone a happy and enjoyable National Hispanic Heritage Month. Beginning on September 15th, the date when Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all gained their independence, and extending through October 15, this month is a time for celebrating the many diverse cultures that make up the Hispanic American community. These different groups have an especially strong presence in our region — of the 8.8 million people living in New York City, over 27% identify as Hispanic.

I love the fact that our own workforce here at VNSNY has that same powerful mix of Hispanic cultures. I’ve often said that VNSNY’s diversity is one of our great strengths, and that is more true today than ever. I want to thank all of our many staff members who share a Hispanic heritage for being an essential and vital part of our organization, as we provide care to our equally diverse population of patients, clients and members.

In the coming days, we’ll be recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month with special editions of “Ask VNSNY” and my own video show, “30 Minutes with Dan.” But really, this month is a reminder that we celebrate our Hispanic heritage at VNSNY each and every day. So in recognition of that, I bid you feliz mes de la herencia hispana!
