Providing Behind-the-Scenes Administrative Support for Three-Plus Decades

Although Emilio Rosado has been with VNSNY for more than 36 years, “It feels like I started yesterday,” he says. Today, with five supervisors and staff reporting to him, Emilio runs the mailrooms and package deliveries for VNSNY Home Care, Hospice, Partners in Care and CHOICE. “We handle interoffice, incoming and outgoing mail, UPS and FedEX packages, as well as the distribution of clinical supplies to Manhattan-based staff and clinicians,” he notes.

Emilio’s boss, Sal Bastardi, Vice President of Corporate Administrative Services, calls Emilio his “go-to person.” Sal commended him in particular for Emilio’s work transitioning VNSNY’s mail operations from 1250 Broadway to the new 220 East 42nd Street office, calling it “the kind of project you can lose sleep over.” “It required a lot of planning and preparation, with many moving pieces,” says Emilio. “There were a few cases when some mail was delayed or misdirected back to 1250, and we had to have it messengered over. Our goal was to make sure there was no impact to the business.”

Emilio is known for his ability both to improve systems—such as arranging for more direct internal mail delivery and redesigning core operations to save almost $1 million annually—and to trouble-shoot on the fly. “Emilio’s pet saying is ‘Whatever it takes to keep staff happy,’” wrote one colleague. “This includes travelling to branch offices to support field clinical staff, setting up for VNSNY Cafés, and assuming responsibilities such as arranging for additional nursing bags and delivering extra supplies to Brooklyn. Emilio performs and manages tasks that are key to the smooth day-to-day operations of VNSNY.”

The fact that people feel they can come to him with a problem, knowing he will solve the issue in a timely manner, “means a lot to me,” says Emilio. “I have a great team that really steps up to the plate—I feel confident in them and they make my job easier. I’m very proud to be part of VNSNY. I have seen a lot of transitions over the years, and this organization continues to do amazing work.  VNSNY has been great to its patients and plan members, and great to me.”
