VNSNY’s (Virtual) Gala Raises More Than $1.4 Million! Despite fervent hopes that the 2021 Benefit Gala would be an in-person event, VNSNY made the difficult decision not to host a large, indoor celebration quite yet this year. “Even though we had to pivot to a virtual event, we released a pre-recorded program video on November 11th that people can watch at their convenience,” says John Billeci, VNSNY’s Vice President of Special Events. “It contains many of the same elements that our in-person event usually has, including a video about VNSNY and the presentation of our Lillian D. VNSNY Launches Oncology Hospice Program As part of its ongoing effort to provide our hospice patients with the best possible quality of life, VNSNY Hospice has launched a specialized support program for complex cancer patients and their loved ones. The program, which was piloted with a major New York City academic medical center, builds on VNSNY Hospice’s experience implementing similar programs for patients with congestive heart failure and COPD. Because people with terminal cancer and their families deal with high levels of fear, stress and complex needs, the program’s aim is to provide these patients and families with an extra layer of support. Flu Vaccine Program for 2019-2020 Officially Starts this Week!  With the 2019-2020 flu season just around the corner, VNSNY’s flu vaccine program for staff is officially underway as of this week. The first to get a flu shot? VNSNY President and CEO Marki Flannery. (See photo at left!) Click here for a schedule of when free flu shots are being offered at VNSNY’s various regional offices. Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) Cuts the Ribbon on Its New Harlem Office On July 9th, Community Mental Health Services celebrated the official opening of its new office at 286 Lenox Avenue in Upper Manhattan. The new office, which is just a few minutes’ walk from CMHS’s West 125th Street location, will house CMHS’s Health Home Care Management and Behavioral Health Community Transitions programs as well as CMHS’s Central Administration staff and the Community Care Management Partners (CCMP) Health Home staff. Five Additional Clinician Care Management Training Cohorts Announced Dates have now been set for five new cohorts of VNSNY’s free online care management training course for clinicians. These popular webinars, offered through New York State’s Workforce Investment Organization (WIO) initiative, are open to all VNSNY nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers and physicians. February 12, 2019–Welcome to “News Briefs from Around VNSNY”—a new Frontline feature that provides brief updates on news and events across the organization. Bronx Nurse-Family Partnership Highlighted. VNSNY’s Bronx Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) was featured in the January 2019 issue of the NYC Nurse-Family Partnership E-News, an electronic newsletter published by New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The article, which included recent Bronx graduation photos, noted that the Bronx NFP is the program’s largest site in the city, with four teams of nurses serving up to 800 families throughout the borough. VNSNY Hospice Is Accredited by NIJH. VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care has received official accreditation from the National Institute of Jewish Hospice (NIJH). This accreditation includes training to deepen the VNSNY Hospice staff’s understanding of how to provide the highest quality hospice care for Jewish patients and their families in a manner that reflects and respects their faith, tradition and values.
