Health Plans Hosts Annual Turkey Giveaway in Washington Heights!

Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Health Plans team hosted its annual turkey giveaway on November 20 in Washington Heights, collaborating with community partner Centro Médico Dominican. Members began lining up early in the morning, greeted with hot coffee, donuts, and lively music from a DJ that kept spirits high as people danced and caught up with neighbors.

The team, joined by NYS Senator Robert Jackson, distributed 400 turkeys to members, many of whom are older, isolated adults who might not otherwise enjoy a special holiday meal. See the photos!

The VNS Health 2025 Benefit: “Here When You Need Us,” took place on Thursday, November 13, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The event, attended by 520 guests and emceed by PIX 11 Anchor Kori Chambers, raised more than $1.1 million for our Charitable Care and Community Impact programs. In addition, Kori featured our event on his news broadcast that evening—click here to view.

Among the evening’s highlights was an award-winning video depicting a day in the life of a VNS Health Nurse Residency graduate that featured Nurse Residency RN graduate Alysson Arikian, her mom (a former VNS Health nurse!), and her daughter (perhaps a future VNS Health nurse!). All three were there to stand and be recognized.

Home Care Team Completes Successful CHAP Site Visit

In late October, CHAP made its triannual on-site visit, a key step in our accreditation process. While their formal report is still pending, the CHAP team praised the quality of care that our Home Care clinicians are providing to patients and also commended the compassion and dedication of all our team members.

Before departing, the CHAP inspectors verbally confirmed that, thanks to our strong showing, VNS Health Home Care will be approved for Deemed Status, which exempts us from separate tri-annual inspections by New York State’s Department of Health, and Age-Friendly Care at Home Certification—a designation indicating that our clinicians are consistently utilizing the Age-Friendly 4-Ms protocol in delivering care. Formal approval of both designations is expected in several weeks.

VNS Health Welcomes New Fellows at Hospice Fellowship Orientation

Back in August, our Hospice team hosted a Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship Training Program Orientation at our 220 East 42nd Street office. Over 40 physician fellows came together for a full-day program featuring nine speakers.

The Fellowship Program integrates healthcare professionals into home hospice care teams, deepening participants’ expertise in the value and impact of home hospice care while also serving thousands of patients, many from minority communities. The day’s events underscored the program’s importance, not only to patients and families, but also to the professional development of those who dedicate their careers to end-of-life care.

Longtime program supporter Dennis Paoli of the Heidi Paoli Fund attended the orientation and shared his reflections. “When a program works, it works,” he noted. “I decided to support VNS Health’s Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship Training Program because I know the huge difference it makes to people in need.” See the photos here!
